The Medieval Festival "Monteriggioni wears a crown of towers 2013" will take place in Monteriggioni - Siena - on July 5, 6, and 7 - 12, 13, and 14, 2013.
Monteriggioni’s festival reaches its twenty-first edition in 2011.
A blend of tradition and innovation welcomes the visitors in a great open-air spectacle whose narrative common thread leads them through heroic armed combats, pranks, intrigue, and merry juggling.
“War and Peace” is the original theme that will mark the attractions and performances of “Monteriggioni wears a crown of towers 2013”, organised by “Monteriggioni A.D. 1213” under the artistic direction of the Jobel Group.
As usual, the festival will be characterised by many entertaining reconstructions of military technology, daily life vignettes, and arts and crafts. A medieval world populated and animated by lively acrobats, musicians, jugglers, soldiers, shopkeepers, spies, pilgrims, innkeepers and merchants will be yours to discover.
New features: not one, but two festivals. The 23st edition of Monteriggioni’s Festival offers twice the fun.
The programme of this year’s festival, which once again is spread over two weekends, will centre on the narration of two episodes differing from one another in historical setting, characters, spectacles, and events.
The first episode (July 5-6-7, 2013) will carry the audience into the middle of a tough 13th century siege, amid clashing swords and shrewd diplomatic jousting of Guelphs and Ghibellines.
The second episode (July 12-13-14, 2013) will take place three hundred years later, at the height of the 16th century, with plots and dark conspiracies unfolding behind the smell of gunpowder and the advancing imperial armies.
One more reason to come... and to come back to Monteriggioni!
