From Friday 24th to Sunday 26th August in Colonnata - a small village up on Carrara - starts the Lard Festival (Sagra del Lardo).
The Lardo of Colonnata derived from cuts of Italian pork, which are never inferior to 3 centimetres (depending on the type of cut).
The classic and unique container for the curation of the Lardo is the Conca di Marmo, a type of tub made of marble from the Canaloni quarries of Colonnata.
It's history, the position and climate of the village, the marble and it's quarries, the expertise and the secular tradition of it's inhabitants, have contibuted in giving us a grastronomical product with a unique taste which melts in one's mouth, offering us the rich fragrance of the senses with a mild taste which can almost be decribed as sweet to the palate.
The town of Colonnata is immersed in a suggestive mountain frame of the Alps, situated at the feet of the marble quarries (540 m. a.s.l.) and joined by Carrara, which is only 7km away, by a panoramic road.
Opening hours: form 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Where: Colonnata, next to Carrara - special Buses for the festival will run from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. from the Central Station of Carrara
