In the Fashion of Today: Based in Florence
from 03rd February 2010 at 10:00 a.m. to 11th April 2010 at 07:00 p.m.

From February 3rd to April 11th, 2010 the Polo Museale Fiorentino opens to contemporary art with an exhibition entitled Alla maniera d’oggi. Base a Firenze (In the Fashion of Today: Based in Florence) organised in conjunction with the Luigi Pecci Centre for Contemporary Art of Prato.

Curated by Marco Bazzini, the exhibition establishes a dialogue between a number of the most important venues of the Polo Museale Fiorentino and the artistic production expressed in Tuscany over the last few decades. The invited artists - Mario Airò, Marco Bagnoli, Massimo Bartolini, Paolo Masi, Massimo Nannucci, Maurizio Nannucci, Paolo Parisi, Remo Salvadori – use the contemporary language to interpret world renowned historical and museum spaces, creating an itinerary that erases the distance of time between the hosting site and the artists’ work, bringing the “old” and the “new” together in the same visual horizon.

The exhibition involves some of the most prestigious historical-museum sites of Florence, including a route in the town centre that comprises the Uffizi Gallery, the Accademia Gallery, the Museo di San Marco, the Cenacolo di Sant’Apollonia, the Chiostro dello Scalzo, Piazza Duomo, and Palazzo Sacrati Strozzi.

The exhibition has been made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Soprintendenza Speciale per il Patrimonio Artistico ed Etnoantropologico and the Polo Museale of the city of Florence, and is part of the project Toscanaincontemporanea 2009, promoted by the Region of Tuscany in conjunction with the Pecci Centre with the aim of promoting contemporary culture.
