From the 4th June to 31st October, 2010 the exhibition VolterrArte 2010 will take place in Volterra - Pisa - and in the surrounding countryside. International artists will be showing their most recent work in exceptional locations: from historical buildings to an alabaster laboratory, to agritourism holiday farms to small villages scattered over the Tuscan hills.
The exhibition is dedicated to images of Volterra, the architectonical beauty inserted into the landscape, to strongly evocative iconographic memory, linked to the most famous of films set in Volterra, from Vaghe Stelle dell’Orsa which Luchino Visconti filmed in Palazzo Inghirami and in Palazzo Viti, to the most recent film New Moon from the Twilight saga based on the best sellers by Stephanie Meyer.
These sources of inspiration have here been translated into sculpture, painting, photography and other mixed media works that celebrate the charm of Volterra, to make it known on a large global scale. These affirmed international artists become ambassadors to Volterra on a world wide scale, in part thanks to their websites and to their wide network of acquaintances.
The exhibition settings are distributed throughout Volterra and the nearby countryside. The diverse locations have been chosen specifically as ideal exhibition settings for each individual work, thereby enriching these locations with painting sculpture photographs and installations. The exhibition will be a means for tourists and visitors to penetrate the streets of Volterra and discover the beautiful Tuscan countryside.
To facilitate being able to see all the exhibition locations, there will be a shuttle bus service available for a maximum of 9 visitors per time which will go to all the locations, departing from the Hotel Nazionale in Volterra. The cost of the service is 15€ per person for the 3 hour tour and 30€ for the 6 hour tour which includes lunch.
