This is the 13th year of Volterra A.D. 1398 when the medieval streets of Volterra - nearby Pisa - come alive with music, theatre and juggling. The festivities culminate in "the Day of the 1398 festival", from morning to night on August 15th and 22nd, 2010.
This year this event returns to its original splendour in the pulsing heart of the ancient Volterra. The medieval town centre will be animated with a past never forgot, and all the visitors will be carried into the past as if by magic.
Spirited steeds, courageous knights, lords, dames, artisans and merchants, town commoners and country peasants, flag-flyers, crossbowmen, jugglers, musicians and jesters will magically bring medieval Volterra, with all its enchantment, back to life.
The highlights of the festival are the “Anno Domini 1398 Celebration Days”, Sunday August 15th and Sunday August 22nd, with festivities from dawn to dusk.
On these days Volterra will stage the re-enactment of medieval life as it was in the year 1398, with performances, events, markets, crafts, music, jugglers, common-folk and nobility: a truly remarkable opportunity to experience the magical, spell-bound atmosphere of the Middle Ages in one of the most beautiful towns in Tuscany.
