
The "City of Tuff" Park, in the area of Sorano - Grosseto, gives visitors the chance of exploring this unspoilt landscape of tufaceous heights and valleys rich in vegetation.
The most important centre for the Etruscan era is Sovana, where the necropolis are their monumental rupestrian tombs are a typical feature; the Ildebrando, the tombs of Tifone and Sirena and many others.
The Visitors' Centre in Sovana is housed in the Palazzo Pretorio and contains a model of the Ildebranda Tomb, several panels illustrating the routes to the necropolis and an exhibition of objects found in the tombs of San Sebastiano.
The exhibition of "Etruscans in Sovana, theRupestrian necropolis" is on the second floor and introduces the history and tours of the townand the necropolis, and the many tombs spread in the surrounding urban area.
Two itineraries to the rupestrian necropolis are available:
- Necropolis of Sopraripa (cave-way to San Sebastiano, tomb of the Sirene and half-cube tomb);
- Necropolis at Poggio Prisca, Poggio Felceto, Poggio Stanziale (tomb of Ildebranda, Cavone, tomb of Tifone).
