The façade of the Church of San Matteo in Soarta is designed by Pugliani, and represents one of the most charming and classic examples of 17th-century architecture. The side overlooking the River Arno clearly shows the different building phases dating from the 11th and 12th centuries.
The recently restored interior features a vault with St. Matthew in heavenly glory, a prominent example of Pisan baroque executed by the Melani brothers. Other paintings, frescoes and stuccoes illustrating the life and works of the saint are the work of some of the most famous artists of the period.
