Archiepiscopal Archives

The Archiepiscopal Archives were recovered in November 2001 and are currently managed by Don Nieri.

These archives are among the most important in Italy. The oldest document they preserve dates from the year 720, when Pisa and Tuscany where under Lombard rule.

Despite the many destructions and removals occurred over the centuries, the archives still preserve over 5000 parchments with all manner of documents, including private notarial acts, imperial diplomas and papal bulls donated by scholars and journalists. The archives also contain hundreds of registers and documents concerning the history of the Pisan Church and community in relation to the papacy and the rest of Italy, with particular reference to Corsica and Sardinia.
