The severe Church of San Francesco, of Gothic origins, was built by the Franciscans in 1326. The gothic design is probably by Francesco di Giorgio.
A big part of the church was destroyed by a big fire in 1655: one work that survived was the 'Crucifixion', by Pietro Lorenzetti, situated in the first chapel of the transept. In the third chapel are two frescoes by his brother Ambrogio.
