Piazza Guido Monaco is a circular square dating back to the 19th century, situated at the crossroads of two large modern systems of roads, which intersect and cut the walled city lengthways and widthways. The first, indicated by the straight line of via Guido Monaco, was built around 1870 to link up the railway station, which was opened in those years, to the centre of town.
The second consists of the via Petrarca - via Roma - via Crispi route, around which gravitated the expansion of the town at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries.
At the centre of the square, which has a diameter of 100 metres, is the monument to Guido Monaco, by Salvino Salvini.
