The Saint Stephen Romanesque Church of Sorano is situated in the municipality of Filattiera - Massa Carrara - and it is one of the best example of Lunigiana Romanesque Style. The archaeologists have found out that this parish church was built over the remains of a Roman farm, which used as a farm-locanda, until it was attacked by the Goths.
The first traces of the Parish Chruch date back to the 1148. The building was made up of stone ashlars and pilasters and hanging small arches on the apses. There is a feminine stele statue which represents the ancient religiousness in connection to the modern religion. On a nave wall there is a figure depicting characters of folk art, typical of the Lunigiana culture.
