The fountain (also called "Biancone") is located in Piazza della Signoria. The statue was done by sculptor Bartolomeo Ammannati between 1560 and 1565, and located in the corner of Palazzo Vecchio as a connection between the two parts of the square, since now separated.
The Neptune figure, made by Carrara marble, was an allusion to the maritime control of Florence of the 16th century. It stands on a decorated pedestal with two Scilla and Cariddi staues. The pool is in octagonal shape and at the base line stands three Triton playing flutes. The pool also contain four Neptune's horses (two in rose marble an the other two in white marble).
