Chiesa di Santa Maria in Gradi looks out on to the square of the same name, which is situated on the steep slope of piaggia di Murello (formerly Ruga Mastra) not far from the picturesque 'canto alla Croce'.
It dates from the 11th or 12th century, but was re-done in manneristic style at the end of the 16th century, following a design by Bartolomeo Ammannati.
The brick campanile was modified in the following century. The single nave interior, in addition to 17th century stone and wood altars, contains a particularly interesting Madonna of Mercy, a 15th century terracotta by Andrea della Robbia.
