The Forte dei Marmi Museum of satire and caricatures is housed in the Forte di Leopoldo I; it continues the idea of the Satira Politica Prize and has become a centre of conservation, collection and study of material on the history of satire and caricatures from all over the world.
The Museum possesses original drawings of both contemporary and past artists, a specialised library with more than 2500 volumes, a video library and a multimedia archive; it also organizes exhibitions on both contemporary and past satire.
Every year since 1973, in September, the Città di Forte dei Marmi Foundation together with Municipality, Tuscan Regional Authorities and Province of Lucca organises the Satira Politica Prize. This is an international competition that has seen the participation of authors like David Levine, Jule Feiffer, Garry Trudeau, Gore Vidal, Ralph Steadman and Pancho in the fields of journalism, literature, graphics and media (radio, television, cabaret).
